As promised, here is the 1.03GB map download that includes the previous (pre-Thisland) map, its nether and skyland maps along with the war map.
Enjoy.

Nfreader
nfreader, thanks.
(admin in general),
One of the things that needs to happen is that you need to come clean with your long term plans for the server, even if your long term plans amount to saying, “Um…I don’t know.”
“I don’t know”. I’d be the worst Cylon ever because there is no plan. There’s an underlying urge for more conflict/community, but nothing concrete aside from that.
If the update for Minecraft 1.2 comes out, is it likely that we will see a map reset? If not then, then when? Alot hinges on how these questions are answered.
Expect resets when major changes (ie: not jungle biomes) are made to the world generator. I’m not interested in expanding a map outside the current 2000 block limit (not without more players to fill it and hardware to handle it). Everyone wants new terrain and these milestones seem like the best times to do it.
I’m not going to want to heavily invest in the building of infrastructure, if that infrastructure is just going to be destroyed or erased in one or two m onths time. Nor would I be interested in making the MTA “just so” per your build specs, far better to have something that is functional and working, then asthetically pleasing and 8 times the work.
The M/HTA was never meant to be aesthetic. The mistake here was that prophile built it with admin tools, something that was strictly prohibited on the M/HTA in the past. An unrealistic design standard is in place and is the source of may problems.
I would much rather start building challenge structures, like dungeons for other players to explore. Perhaps experiment with railway systems. Maybe make a golf course, or plan events like foot races from point A to point B.
You are free (and encouraged) to build whatever you please.
I also think you should write up a city development plan for Spawntown. What exactly is your vision for Spawntown? If you want Spawntown to have a “small town” feel, with rustic cottages, then you can’t allow buildsin like mine, which is little more then a creeper attracting experimental mad scientists labratory. Even if this “City Development Plan” is nothing more then 4 or 5 bullet points (though I think is should be much more). Are people going to have to level mountain sides on the new map? Is spawn town going to be centrally located? If there is a time to work out these details, its now, when we know that a map reset is in the future. I’d stake out an area maybe 500 squares close to spawn town and invite people to experiment with “Faux Spawntown”, where the admin lay out streets and maybe a city plan for general development. I think this would go a long way toward creating the type of spawntown you want.
You mean this one? (PDF). It’s not particularly relevant since we’re not resetting, but meh.
Ps: I encourage everyone to leave feedback for that document on the HPDA page.
I think the last thing that needs to happen is you need to call off your “War”. At the current rate of casualities (2-3 a night), the event should only be over in say 2 or 3 weeks. Even a week is probabily to long, in that it is keeping players/community from doing anything constructive for this amount of time. Other then Grief one another, and start thinking along PK lines. This was an event that was meant to transition players/community from old map B to new map C, and without that transition, the event is fairly meaningless. Moreover, it leaves to many questions unanswered, like what map reset are we returning to?
I’m not canceling the war, but I will clarify that the prize will be split amongst the winners (128 diamonds, or 256 if all the active moderators are brutally murdered) once the previously backed up map is restored on Tuesday.
You’ve backpeddled enough to bow to public opinion, but that back peddling was only one step, when I think another is required. This whole event has been a PR disaster, perhaps not as epic as the Netflix fiasco, but disaster none the less.
This was/is not a disaster by any means.
Its time that you became transparent with players about your intentions for the server, your vision of spawntown, what events you plan on running and on what timetable, and finally perhaps your vision of the server as a whole. Yes, thats a lot more work then I’m sure you had planned to do, but it is far less then dragging whole communities of buildings to a new map.
The only vision is that I want a server people enjoy playing on with as little restrictions or oversight as possible. There is no event timetable, there is no reset timetable. The previous announced reset essentially killed the server. That is not something I want to repeat, so future resets will not be announced far out (if at all).
In the end, taking an hour or two and writing out (A) Vision of Spawntown (
Events and timetable and © Proximity of a server reset, or at least potential there of probably a good idea.
There are my 2 cents…

It’s worth noting that this is not and never has been a democracy. It is, at best, a benevolent dictatorship in that I almost always take player response into account when making decisions.

“I’m tired as hell of this current map, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!”
Everybody, all the time
That’s right folks, it’s curtains for this map! We’re gonna give him a pair of concrete boots and see how well he likes getting tossed into the public FTP, never to be heard from again. We’re not just gonna stop there though, oooohhhhh no, we’re gonna get rid of all his assets too. The essentials user data? Toast. The teleporter data? Kaput. Old maps? Gone baby gone. And when we’re done with that, the current hardware’s gonna wake up with a headless server next to it in bed!
Wee woo weeee woo weeeeee wooooooooo Aw geez you guys, it’s the coppers! Everyone make like a tree and get the hell outta here! But wait, before ya go, be sure to check out the War! page to get a front row view of the apocalypse!
This is the police! Come out with your hands up! Cheeze it you guys! I can’t go back to prison! *BANG* *BANG*

A few months ago, I asked prophile to build me a new server website to which he (politely) replied that I should take a long walk off a short pier and “go chug some aspirin*”. Needless to say, I got the hint and started work on the website by myself. I had dreams, ambitions that could only be matched by the star builders on the server. The new website was going to be awesome: lasers, cougars, miniguns, laser miniguns, cougars with laser miniguns and a surprisingly classy set of dinnerware from IKEA (that also shoots lasers).
My ambition got the better of me and I realized no drawing board in existence could contain the liquid awesome of the new site, so I scaled back a bit and decided to go with WordPress and Bootstrap (because it’s unique). This is the result. There are still a few loose ends to tie up, but everything is here and functional. If you run into any problems, the comments here are an acceptable medium to bitch endlessly let me know.
